Loading XP

Whenever I have to reload Windows from scratch (a yearly occurence minimum for my personal box) I have developed a checklist of essential programs to load. Especially if you are setting up the machine for somebody else and they have lost all their license keyes and receipts.
- Firefox Download or Google Chrome Download
- BitTorrent Client http://www.utorrent.com
- Java http://www.java.com
- 7-Zip - file archiver http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/
- Thunderbird - Email Client http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
- Open Office http://go-oo.org (suggested) or openoffice.org (via P2P, aka bitorrent!)
- After loading, set default format(s) for non-technical users
- Tools->Options, then Load/Save->General:
- Text Document -> Word 97/2000/XP
- Spreadsheet -> Excel 97/2000/XP
- Presentation -> Microsoft Powerpoint 97/2000/XP
- Click OK

- Customize Taskbar
- right click on Start bar->Properties->Customize Start Menu
- Advanced Tab
- Select Printers and Faxes
- Select System Admin tools -> Display on the All Prog Menu
- Check List My most recently opened Docs

- Start Explorer, Tools->Folder Options, View tab:
- select Display the full path in the title bar
- unselect Hide extensions for known file types
- Click Apply
- Click Apply to All Folders, Answer Yes
